SewEMG is an heirloom quilt and gift shop, based in East Tennessee where the paced is slow and tea is sweet. We take great honor in hand making your family’s stories and memories into beautiful custom quilts to be snuggled under for generations to come.
Our heartbeat is for preserving the past. We live in a generation where we are always looking for the next big thing (my hand is raised here too!) but with such ever evolving trends also comes the desire to invest in things that last- tangible things that will tell our story long after we are gone. Let us be your link between the past- all those memories and nostalgia you have in your grandmother’s quilts and connect those same feelings and traditions with new quilts in your style and for your modern family.
The mission for SewEMG is to capture your family’s stories, your heart and your memories in every stitch, crinkle and snuggle. Our desire is to help you slow down, pause- wrap up in those memories and reflect on those things that really matter and the legacy you are leaving.
Born below the Mason Dixon line, we were raised sewing and creating. My great grandmother quilted, my grandmothers sewed and my mom made all our costumes growing up. We even have an Aunt who sewed wedding dresses! Sewing is just in our blood and I didn’t realize until I was older what a gift that craft was to our family. While procrastinating studying for my teaching finals, I found myself sewing and buying enough fabric to rival my college tuition bills. As my passion grew and with the encouragement of family and friends, I opened my shop, SewEMG in December of 2012. Just me and a tiny sewing machine in my college apartment bedroom.
My shop took off like I could never imagine. Fast forwarding a year- I changed my major to Merchandise and Design with a minor in Business, where I could not only have the experience- but the technical know-how in production and design. That little sewing machine was replaced by large commercial grade sewing and quilting machines and a team of talented employees helped create from the same patterns I started with back in 2012.
“When I graduated from college we started transitioning the shop. It had become something different all together- and it wasn’t a real embodying of what I wanted it to be and the goals I had in mind for it. Being from the south, quilts hold so much history for me and I was afraid we were turning into just another shop…just another shop with pretty products and fabrics and that’s not what I wanted. So we took a step back, began praying and felt the Lord calling us to start over again…”
The story of SewEMG has evolved into this beautiful shop with a story to match. My heart absolutely sings with telling these stories…stories of tradition and celebrations..stories of hope and legacy…and somehow with the rhythmic sewing of a needle and thread, these stories become ingrained and the memories are woven into every fabric stitch and crinkle. I can’t wait to help tell your story and create a beautiful heirloom to grace your legacy.
